O policial foi levado à Justiça na quinta-feira (21/9), por causa da morte do construtor Chris Kaba, 24 anos. O jovem, que estava desarmado, foi morto pelo disparo de um policial no sudoeste de Londres em 5 de setembro do ano ado.</p>
<p class="texto">Segundo a polícia, a placa do carro de Chris Kaba foi detectada por uma câmera que indicava que se tratava de um veículo relacionado a um incidente com arma de fogo. A morte do jovem gerou uma onda de protestos em Londres.</p>
<p class="texto">A maioria dos 34 mil policiais londrinos trabalha desarmada. No entanto, um porta-voz da polícia londrina, chamada de Scotland Yard, informou que a decisão dos policiais armados em renunciar ao porte de armas ocorreu por preocupações por possíveis consequências de processos e "para ter tempo de refletir sobre sua posição". </p>
<p class="texto">Após a decisão, a ministra do Interior, Suella Braverman, prestou apoio aos policiais. "Estes agentes, que devem tomar decisões em frações de segundo sob uma pressão extraordinária, não devem temer acabar no banco dos réus por terem cumprido seu dever", afirmou.</p>
<p class="texto">Na última sexta-feira (22/9), o comissário Mark Rowley afirmou que se reuniu com 70 policiais para conversar sobre o uso de armas de fogo e letalidade policial. "Tal como eu, eles compreendem a importância da transparência e da responsabilização e reconhecem o terrível efeito sobre todos os envolvidos nas raras ocasiões em que a força letal é utilizada pela polícia. Esse impacto é exacerbado pela velocidade muito lenta com que decorrem as investigações, julgamentos, inquéritos e audiências, o que significa que as vidas de todas as pessoas afetadas ficam em espera durante muitos anos", disse.</p>

Mais de 100 policiais londrinos renunciaram ao porte de armas após um colega ser acusado de assassinato de um jovem negro. O policial foi levado à Justiça na quinta-feira (21/9), por causa da morte do construtor Chris Kaba, 24 anos. O jovem, que estava desarmado, foi morto pelo disparo de um policial no sudoeste de Londres em 5 de setembro do ano ado.
Segundo a polícia, a placa do carro de Chris Kaba foi detectada por uma câmera que indicava que se tratava de um veículo relacionado a um incidente com arma de fogo. A morte do jovem gerou uma onda de protestos em Londres.
A maioria dos 34 mil policiais londrinos trabalha desarmada. No entanto, um porta-voz da polícia londrina, chamada de Scotland Yard, informou que a decisão dos policiais armados em renunciar ao porte de armas ocorreu por preocupações por possíveis consequências de processos e "para ter tempo de refletir sobre sua posição".
Após a decisão, a ministra do Interior, Suella Braverman, prestou apoio aos policiais. "Estes agentes, que devem tomar decisões em frações de segundo sob uma pressão extraordinária, não devem temer acabar no banco dos réus por terem cumprido seu dever", afirmou.
Na última sexta-feira (22/9), o comissário Mark Rowley afirmou que se reuniu com 70 policiais para conversar sobre o uso de armas de fogo e letalidade policial. "Tal como eu, eles compreendem a importância da transparência e da responsabilização e reconhecem o terrível efeito sobre todos os envolvidos nas raras ocasiões em que a força letal é utilizada pela polícia. Esse impacto é exacerbado pela velocidade muito lenta com que decorrem as investigações, julgamentos, inquéritos e audiências, o que significa que as vidas de todas as pessoas afetadas ficam em espera durante muitos anos", disse.
